ABOUT KATHERINE HAGSTRUM

Born in 1943 in Washington, D.C. the artist grew up in Evanston, IL, spending some time in Florence, Italy, and later in Southern France. She has taught Art, French, and English in Equatorial Africa and in Laos, later teaching in Illinois and Massachusetts. In 1972, she settled in New York City, studying at the Printmaking Workshop and the New School for Social Research. She now works on a press in her home and studio in Bisbee, Arizona, where she also currently is an instructor of Humanities at Cochise Community college where she teaches courses in the history of the humanities in Western culture. She has been the director of the For the Love of Music classical chamber music series in Bisbee since 1985. She and her husband, Alvin Sandler, set up The Art Entrée Foundation in 2002 to encourage young artists and musicians and to further the development of an audience for the arts.
