In collaboration with Anthony Conway, Sampson created “homestretch in celebration of the 1996 Paralympic Games. Sampson expresses the anticipation of the ultimate challenge inherent in all of US in his 1996 Paralympic piece entitled “Swimmers Take Your Mark.”

Painter and sculptor, David A. Sampson, graduated from Georgia State University in 1977 Cum Laude with a Bachelor of visual Arts Degree. Since graduating, he has received such honors as SAI & VSA-GA Dream Maker Award (1995); Yamagata juror & facilitator (1993-1995); Yamagata International Art Fellow (1992); National Council on Communicative Disorders Sixth Annual Award (1987); Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence in Public Art for the “Water of Life” Sculpture Fountain (1985); Atlanta Project of Disability Art Award (1984); and the Kaleidoscope Magazine Art Award (1982).

David Sampson is an artist that has studied the techniques of the great masters from Monet and the impressionist to contemporary artist Bernie Fuchs and Robert Heindell.

David’s ability to capture any event by showing the motion and excitement of the sport gave him the opportunity to be chosen by the United States Olympic Committee to create two images for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games hosted by Atlanta.

David’s images were used for the Paralympic Games, since, in addition to being a great artist, David is Handicap.
