Detail Description
This woodblock print was made for the Carnegie Hall Series. Seven notable American artists – George Baselitz, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Robert Rauschenberg, Larry RIvers, Ed Ruscha – have done numbered and signed prints for a limited-edition “Carnegie Hall Centennial Portfolio” in celebration of the hall’s 100th anniversary. This project was commissioned by Fine Art Limited for Carnegie Hall.
This screenprinted rendition called for some twenty color separations which work together to suggest both the physical depth and the painterly handling that marks the artist’s unique works. The three layered segments in RIvers; screen print also allude to collage. Collage has interested artists throughout this century moving back to the cubist experiments of Picasso and Braque.
