Rembrandts original prints were so popular that the original plates had become worn by the mid 1800's. Amand Durand, a master engraving born in France in 1831, decided to step in to bringing these plates back to life so they could once again be used again.
Art historians have been stunned by the incredible quality of these prints. Armand Durand has been thought to have done justice to Rembrandts original concepts along with improving the legend of the Dutch master in a technical sense.
